Wrestler Can Fight
November 19th 2008 03:44
I have been a fan of professional wrestling for a long time and spend up to 7 hours a week watching it. Seeing as how it's all about entertainment there's always been a huge question mark over whether these performers could actually fight. Well we now know that at least one can.
On the weekend former WWE champion Brock Lesnar stopped Randy Couture in the second round to become the UFC Heavyweight champion. This is a result that has to give professional wrestling some legitimacy. Being a fan of his, I was disappointed for Couture who is a legend of the octagon but I never thought I'd be able to say that a former WWE champion was now a UFC champion.
I wonder whether Lesnar's effort will inspire others to do the same. I'm not sure anyone else would be capable. Kurt Angle has apparently expressed an interest and is a logical suggestion but his chance may have passed.
Who knows Lesnar may lose his next match and never be heard from again such is the nature of the UFC. Whatever happens he's done something that no one else has, that may never be repeated and he has given professional wrestling fans something to smile about.
