Olympics On TV Off
August 12th 2008 05:37
When it comes to sport I doubt whether there would be a better achievement than winning gold at the Olympics. It would be the pinnacle particularly for those involved in swimming and athletics. So I understand that now with the Olympics on it's going to be all over newspapers and the TV. Heck I'll be watching a fair amount myself.
What I don't get is why TV networks that are not covering the Olympics change their programming so dramatically? It leaves little to watch. Having Foxtel I thought I'd be able to escape the Olympics when I got bored - to my surprise they're the worst offender.
Fox 8 the channel I watch most has abandoned everything bar the wrestling (thank God it stayed) for non stop cartoons. This means no Contender and no America's Next Top Model for a couple of weeks. I would watch these shows over the Olympics any day. Over on showcase they at least had the sense to have some of their programs conclude last week. This does mean it's now poor quality or repeats for the next couple of weeks. I expected more from Foxtel because I didn't think ratings impacted them as much.
The Olympics don't interest everyone - some don't care at all - it's a shame TV networks don't realise this.
