Malaysians gone crazy about sugar

More issues on sugar crisis.
Shortage of sugar to the point the citizen were complaining, then the grocers were "raising" the price of sugar as they said the sugar is not enough but the consumer demands are high.
Then the government issued sugar under the controlled items where the price cannot be raised, the grocers take a step to limit the numbers of sugar per packet a customer can buy. But in the end, it's not that the sugar is NOT enough, its because some irresponsible people hides their sugar stocks in their warehouse. When the sugar price is increased, they start selling the sugars in their stock. So, when the authorities raided their warehouse, they freaked out and suddenly, there's no sugar shortage problem.
Usually this problem is around the fasting months (Ramadan) caused during that times, Muslims in my country would busy preparing for the eid-fitri yummy cakes and dishes.
Other than that, I was worried with the number of sugar a person can take. For example, a six-person household in my case, after one month, the one kilogram of sugar is not even close to quarter is consumed. But other household as my mom told me, her friend, a five person household, one kilogram of sugar per month is not enough. So I wonder..What happens to the rest of Malaysians?
Is sugar is that important?I asked my colleague and she said that sugar is only for foods and drinks. We have creamers to replaced it and also this food seasoning that replaces all sugar, salt, onion and etc.
Consuming sugar way too much is not healthy.
