Do you find it very hard to open up to people? Why or why not? What are the benefits and disadvantages of being emotionally guarded?
This question is quite tough to answer XD
I opened myself a bit to outsiders, enough for them to see who I am. For people who closed with me, I opened up a little bit more but never 100%. Even crying on my friends shoulder is twice only and then, I stopped.
I'm one of the people who hold the philosophy that I rather having only one or two friends that I really can rely on and trust than having lots of friends but when you're in distress, none of them would fully help you. They only sympathize. so, for me, at least the people who were close with me is reliable and trustworthy.
There's a lot of its disadvantages for example people can misunderstands you as they don't fully knows you. So, to avoid this, you have to be very careful in terms of your speech and the language that you used and not to forget your action.
For the advantage, when you were emotionally guarded (as they refer to it), even if your best friends or your lover betray you, or stabbing your back it doesn't hurts as much as they could. That is my personal opinion.
